Content Based Image Retrieval (CBIR) System

Content Based Image Retrieval (CBIR) is a technology that organizes digital image archives and perform search based on visual contents. The increasing amount of digitally produced images requires new methods to archive and access this data. Conventional databases allow for textual searches on Meta data only. Content Based Image Retrieval (CBIR) is a technique which uses visual contents, normally called as features, to search images from large scale image databases according to users’ requests in the form of a query image. Figure 1 and 2 explain the basic idea of the Content Based Image Retrieval (CBIR) systems. In this project we are going to develop an application which perform content based search in large image database or repositories. The dataset is available and the textures and colors features will be used to develop the given system.
